The Hangover Part II did more than win the box office this weekend. It set multiple records in the process.
Despite harsh reviews, the comedy earned $86.5 million from Thursday to Sunday, the best three-day weekend ever for a live-action comedy and the second-best opening of all-time for an R-rated film, just falling short of The Matrix Reloaded.
The complete top five from a busy weekend at theaters looks like this:
The Hangover Part II: $86.5
Kung Fu Panda 2: $47.5
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides: $39.3 million
Lady Gaga kicked off Good Morning America's summer concert series this morning in New York's Central Park with a five-song set promoting her new Born This Way album and her upcoming tour. Even more exciting? The ever-surprising Gaga made a grand entrance by ziplining onto the stage over the heads of her fans, many of whom have been camping out for two days in order to see the concert. Watch her grand entrance below!
Gaga, known for her kooky couture, was dressed in a flowing Red Riding Hood getup (with some white mixed in) for the first number. She floated in on a harness to screams and cheering from the audience, before joining her gaggle of dancers on stage for "Bad Romance."
Speaking of broad appeal, former baseball player/steroid-user Jose Canseco took to his Twitter feed on Monday and Tuesday to declare his (so far unrequited) love for Lady Gaga. On May 23 he tweeted, "I love lady gaga wish I could meet her. would marry her in a second." Later that day, he wrote, "I am her night in baseball armor." The following day, he again took to his Twitter feed, now sounding a little bit despondent: "Lady gaga where r u did u get my marriage proposal I am at cocoa casino in yuma Arizona."
Lady Gaga has yet to reply -- but her comments on GMA this morning could give Jose a kernel of hope. When asked, "If you had one day to do anything you wanted, what would you do?" Mother Monster replied, "I would want to hang out with my fans and have it not be me." (Fingers crossed, Jose!)
Gaga's set list this morning included new hit "Judas" and "Edge of Glory," and she closed out the concert this morning with an acoustic version of "Hair." Watch that performance below.
It's all over for Adrianne Curry and Christopher Knight. The scandal-filled couple announced over the weekend that their five-year marriage was coming to a legal end.
"After starting a relationship with what seemed to be irreconcilable differences, the couple has reached a period where those differences are no longer appreciated," manager Phil Viardo hilariously said.
Knight, forever known for his role as Peter Brady, met Curry years ago while they filmed The Surreal Life. Their engagement and first year of marriage was then captured on My Fair Brady.
But Curry recently admitted to Howard Stern that she was "unsatisfied" at home and turned to Twitter for attention. She also said she used Sybian machine to get herself off because her husband couldn't do it himself.
If you're like us, you spent the week looking at those candid shots of Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez in swim suits on the beach saying to yourself, that Beiber kid really has a great body. So...
Nice try, death! Do you think you can just show up in Mystic Falls and take out a couple of our favorite characters? Get that weak mess out of here!
Of course, Damon (Ian Somerhalder)...
Dominating headlines with their beachfront frolicking photos a few days ago, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez's Hawaiian romp can now be seen even more in-depth upon the release of video documenting the loved-up outing.
The "Never Say Never" star and his "Monte Carlo" cutie were the picture of young love as they shared plenty of smooches while venturing about the tropical Maui locale.
During the course of the day, Justin and Selena shared a walk through the lush tropical gardens at the Hyatt Regency Ka'anapali.
The two lovebirds also were spotted jet skiing and parasailing earlier in the day, while Bieber later took Gomez to Lahaina for a little shopping and dining along the Historic Front Street.
New York City Congressman Anthony Weiner says he was the victim of an Internet hacker when a lewd photo was posted to his Twitter page last night ... and quickly removed. The photo in question showed a man in his underwear who, um ... was not suffering from shrinkage. Political blog biggovernment.com says the photo was posted to a picture sharing service connected to Rep. Weiner. The photo was removed, as was every other photo on the account. The site says the photo was sent to a woman on Twitter, but that account has since been deleted as well. Weiner tweeted about the pic (though he mistakenly referenced Facebook and not Twitter) and told POLITICO today, "The weiner gags never get old, I guess."No, sir. No they do not.
Performing as expected, "The Hangover 2" has easily claimed a decided lead in box office earnings over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
Having opened on Thursday night, the Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis starring sequel raced out to a sizable lead with projected 5-day earnings situated at $139 million.
By no means a poor performance - yet quite a ways behind "The Hangover 2" - is second place garnering film "Kung Fu Panda 2," as the Jack Black and Angelina Jolie animated tale is on pace to pull in $65 million over the 5-day opening weekend run.
Rounding out the approximated top five this weekend are "Pirates Of The Caribbean 4 3D" ($50 million), "Bridesmaids" ($20.6 million) and "Thor 3D" ($12 million).
