There's a new wrinkle in Lindsay Lohan's latest legal battle. Kamofie and Company, the store that's accused her of pilfering a $2,500 necklace, has sold the surveillance tape of Lohan's shopping visit to Entertainment Tonight. (See photos of it here.)
Lohan's already pleaded her innocence in the charge of felony grand theft (she explained that the necklace was a "loaner"), and she's said all along that the store is just trying to make money off of her notoriety. Now Lohan's feeling vindicated: This latest move by Kamofie shows that the store does have a financial incentive to accuse her of theft. First, they got lots of publicity, and now they're cashing in with the tape.
Of course, Kamofie and Company sees it differently. "We were upset with the various mischaracterizations we were seeing and hearing about the video and its contents, and we felt the video should be allowed to speak for itself," the store said in its official statement.
So, what exactly is on this tape? Snippets of it, which have already aired on Entertainment Tonight and The Insider, basically show Lohan admiring the necklace. Does the fact that she eventually exited with the necklace prove anything, considering her defense is based on her belief that she had permission to? Probably not.
Score one for Lohan. Who knows? Now maybe the case could get dropped, and she can go back to obsessing over the jokes made at her expense. Her inability to laugh at herself came to the forefront again this weekend, when she emailed SNL's producer Lorne Michaels about Miley Cyrus' unflattering depiction of her in last week's opening sketch.
The irony is that, just a half-hour later, Cyrus participated in a skit that poked fun at herself. Apparently, some people are better at being able to take a joke.

After spending three months in rehab for "emotional issues," Disney darling Demi Lovato is moving on with her life -- and she says she owes it all to her fans.
The 18-year-old singer-actress released a smiley home video on Cambio.com thanking her fans for their continued support throughout "the darkest time of my life."
"I know you’ve seen me out and about, and I wanted to let you know that I’m back, and home," says the Sonny with a Chance star. who left the Jonas Brothers tour last fall to enter rehab. "But I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for the support that you guys have given me along the way. I read all of the tweets, the trending topics and the fan mail, and your support is what got me through this. So I couldn’t be more thankful for everything that you guys sent me."
"The journey that I’ve been on has been very very difficult over the past few months," she continues. "People that are probably watching this video right now are dealing with the issues that I had to. And I hope to one day raise awareness of everything so that I can help people, too, just like you guys helped me through this rough time."
Lovato sincerely thanked her fans again for "how much like you guys brought into my life in probably the darkest time of my life" and credited her supporters for her recovery. "Without you guys, I wouldn’t be here today." The starlet said she was "excited to get back to work" and "can’t wait to tell you guys what the future holds."
In December, Lovato reached a deal with Alex Welch, the backup dancer she allegedly punched in the face prior to checking into rehab. And despite the untimely release of racy photos leaked online, Lovato seems to be well on her way toward redeeming her public image.
We wish her a continued recovery and all the best.
