Barbara Walters' Most Fascinating Person of 2010

Barbara Walters' Most Fascinating Person of 2010

This year, General David Petraeus took home the top honor from Barbara Walters.

In a break from her usual choice of a woman to top the list (for the last five years, anyway), last night Barbara Walters sang the praises of "a different kind of general fighting a different kind of war" on ABC's Barbara Walters Presents the 10 Most Fascinating People of 2010.

She commended America's top military leader in Afghanistan for a style of war "fought by teaching farmers new techniques, helping businesses grow, keeping the peace so life can go on, and people can have something to fight for."

It was a surprising choice for Walters. Though she pointed out that "in the military, he's a kind of rock star," Petraeus isn't on magazine covers at the supermarket checkout line. Pop culture icons, or highly-celebrated politicians, tend to be her idea of "fascinating." The rest of her list -- Justin Bieber, Betty White, LeBron James, the cast of Jersey Shore, Kate Middleton, Sarah Palin, Jennifer Lopez, Mark Zuckerberg and Sandra Bullock -- did, in fact, follow that formula.

As usual, Walters only interviewed about half of the list. For Bullock, she showed clips of their talk before Bullock's life went haywire. Apparently, the actress didn't grant her a follow-up interview, now that she had some real personal drama to discuss. The segments about  Middleton (Prince William's fiancée), LeBron James (the NBA player who ditched his team this year) and Mark Zuckerberg (the guy who founded Facebook in his college dorm, becoming a billionaire at age 23) were also clip jobs.

Walters did interview Bieber, whose fascinating quotient is highest with tweens. (And if you are a tween, you'll be unsurprised to hear that he once again denied having a girlfriend.) Lopez granted Walters an interview and talked about her new "private" approach to life. "I was kind of living my life out loud," she said. "And I remember [husband Marc Anthony] said, 'You don't have to live like this.'" But Lopez didn't disclose any truly fascinating facts about her life. Palin said nothing that she hasn't said in countless other interviews.

The show did have one fascinating moment. It came during Walters' interview with the Jersey Shore cast. Turns out they think everyone's like them. "The only difference [between us and other young Americans] is we had a camera on us," said Pauly D. "Everybody else parties and stuff, but we were just filmed during it."

Well, okay, maybe that's true. Now out of my way... I need to go flash a bartender and get another free jello shot. Woooo-hoooo!

Justin Bieber Shocked, Then Stoked About Grammy Noms

Though he was a bit tongue-tied when host LL Cool J asked him to react to his Grammy nomination for Best New Artist on Wednesday night during the "Grammy Nominations Concert Live!" special, Justin Bieber got his thoughts together a short time later and had a lot more to say about the honor.

"Just went to bed and thought I was nominated for 1 #grammy and was already freakin out ... then @scooterbraun [Bieber's manager] just called me ... 2 nominations!!," the 16-year-old star tweeted from London.

And as the news of his first-ever Grammy noms sunk in, Bieber couldn't contain his enthusiasm.

"What!?!? what?!?!!? 2!! #Heck yes!! Love everyone. Never say never!!!," he wrote, adding, "Win or lose ... this is #crazy!! the Grammys!!! #Holy crap!!!"

Those reactions were a bit more enthusiastic than the ones he gave on-air with host LL. During a brief back-and-forth on the show after Paramore's Hayley Williams announced the nominees for Best New Artist, Bieber seemed stunned and was at a loss for words when the rapper asked him how it felt.

"Wow. It feels amazing. I can't believe I'm in this position. I want to thank all my fans, everybody. I want to thank ... the board. I don't know what to say," Bieber stammered.

The teen idol has some pretty stiff competition in the new-artist category, including rapper Drake, buzz bands Florence & the Machine and Mumford & Sons and a dark-horse candidate, jazz singer Esperanza Spalding.

There aren't any slouches in the other category Bieber snagged a nomination in, either. His My World 2.0 will face off in the race for Best Pop Vocal Album against releases from Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Susan Boyle and John Mayer.

Bieber performed his hit "Favorite Girl" on the Grammy concert special and later posted a video with a more-enthusiastic reaction to his double nomination.

"Hey everyone, it's 3 in the morning over here in London, and LL Cool J just told me I'm a Grammy-nominated artist," Bieber says in the clip, sitting calmly on a stool in a green-screen studio.

"I was a little nervous, shell-shocked. I didn't really get to show you guys how I really feel," he admits, before jumping out of his seat and shouting, "Yes! Yes! I am a Grammy-nominated artist! Never say never! Never say never!" as he spins in circles, pumps his fists and spikes his baseball hat on the ground.

The Best New Artist nod must have been especially sweet for JB, since just this January at the 2010 Grammy Awards, he and Ke$ha presented the statue in that category, and he said he was looking forward to possibly being on the stage again in 2011.

Robert Pattinson & Kristen Stewart Flaunt Their Love in Louisiana

Love is in the air in Baton Rouge, La! As the cast of Twilight shoots Breaking Dawn, the final installment of the saga, the film's two leads, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, are clearly enjoying their time together.

After months (or years!) of speculation, it looks as though Pattinson, 24, and Stewart, 20, are getting tired of covering up their relationship.

People reports that the pair, along with roughly two dozen of their fellow Twilight cast members, enjoyed a private dinner at a steakhouse and a restaurant source couldn't help but notice their chemistry. "Kristen and Rob were very couple-like," the source said. "There was a lot of hand-holding, sitting next to each other. Everyone was talking around the room, but Kristen and Rob were just talking to each other, not really into the conversations everyone else was having."

During another night on the town in Baton Rouge, Robsten visited a karaoke bar where an onlooker noticed they looked "very much a couple." The source said, "I mean, they weren't slobbering all over each other … but they sure looked like a couple and were talking with each other like a couple. They (seemed like) a couple in love."

But, R-Pattz and K-Stew aren't the only ones feeling the love in Louisiana. Their costar Ashley Greene and her new beau Joe Jonas are taking advantage of the local culture. The couple has frequented a local watering hole called Fred's Bar.

An employee at the bar says they've seen Greene, 23, and Jonas, 21, there "a couple of times" checking out local bands. "They were definitely together, holding hands," the source says. "A few people recognized them, they were pretty cool."
